Tower of the Sun
The Expo Memorial Park in Suita City is home to the 65-meter Tower of Sun (Taiyou no Tou). It was built by Taro Okamoto to symbolize the Expo '70.
The Tower of the Sun definitely ranks as one of my favorite constructions in Japan. I saw it yesterday for the first time, and one of the reasons why I like it so much is that it's surrounded by a large patch of open grassland which makes it look majestically lonesome, if that makes any sense. It's also funny how "he" seems to be peeking out of the forested park with his arms raised.
Above is another shot of the monument taken off the ramp leading up to the monorail station.
